Artistic mastery, structural perfection, and reverence for our vanishing natural world; these are the hallmarks of the Living Series of naturalistic bronzes by noted British sculptor, Brian Arthur. Whether gracefully fluid in motion or magnificently majestic in repose, these maquette-sized sculptures of exotic waterfowl, dolphins, sea lions and more serve as inspiring reminders of the living art that exists around us. Nature’s grace is truly captured in these elegant bronze works, each of which is hand signed and certified by the artist.
Brian Arthur began his career in the English pottery country of Staffordshire. After graduating in sculpture and art history from Southport College of Arts, he pursued the study of form and structure, spending two years at the Burstein School of Industrial Design. Brian then joined Chelsea Pottery in London where he trained in hand-thrown sculpture and ornamental design. When this prestigious studio opened a branch in the Bahamas, he was selected to assist local craftsmen and artists in the production of sculpture and pottery.
After his work in a variety of media took Mr. Arthur to France and Italy, he was invited to America by sculptor, Felix DeWeldon to collaborate on several major commemorative public sculptures, including the Iwo Jima and Harry S. Truman monuments in Washington, DC.
Brian Arthur’s bronze sculptures are cast using the lost wax process, polished, then patinaed in rich earth tones. The exquisite patinas on his bronzes beautifully enhance their composition, sometimes resembling fine veined marble. Brian Arthur worked at his studios in the U.S. and Devon, England, until his passing in 2022.
